I want a dyke for a supervisor

Also I can’t wait to be a queer masochist on Mars.
Or: commemorating the end of two courses with two new bits of writing.
Since March, I’ve been undertaking my certificate in justice-informed and anti-oppressive clinical supervision, meaning that once I’m qualified I can be a supervisor for other therapists and mental health practitioners. It’s been a lot of work, but my final portfolio has finally been submitted, including a creative piece I made as part of my last assignment.
Inspired by Zoe Leonard‘s iconic 1992 poem I want a president, I made my own wishlist of traits I want in a supervisor, and then – in the analysis that went along with the creative component of the assignment – connected each line to research and theory.

Zoe Leonard’s poem was on my mind because of another course I took part in recently: the Queer Ancestry series led by poet Sophie Robinson as part of the Devotion workshops. It’s something I’ve wanted to do for ages, and this summer turned out to be the time. It was a beautiful experience, and I’m so grateful to Sophie for creating such a gorgeous, safe creative container for exploring work by other queer creatives, along with the imaginative writing prompts given in each session.
Here’s a first draft from one of those sessions: a poem using the ‘I can’t wait’ refrain of Baraka by Ariana Reines and some of the imagery from Smiling Ferocious Thing by Scott Nelson.
